Winning start for France as they beat German

World champions, France kicked off their 2020 edition of the European Championship with a win, by defeating Germany 1-0 at the Allianz Arena.

The only goal in the clash was from an own goal by Mats Hummels in the 20th minute. Paul Pogba sent in a beautiful dink pass to left-back, Lucas Hernandez, who sent in a cross-shot that ricocheted off the Dortmund defender into his own goal.

Both Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema thought they had scored, but their goals were chalked off for offside. The PSG star sent in a low curler past Manuel Neuer, but the official raised the flag immediately.

The Real Madrid striker’s attempt was in the 85th minute, following a brilliant through ball from Pogba to Mbappe, who squared the ball to Benzema, but the PSG forward was offside in the build-up to the goal.

France sit second on the table, level on points with Portugal, but behind on goals difference. Germany, on the other hand, are third on the table.
