Brazil young star, Vinicius Junior stepped up for Real Madrid as he scored a brace to help the Merengues defeat Liverpool 3-1 at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano.
Vinicius Junior scored the opening goal in the 27th minute, following a long ball from Toni Kroos, and the Brazilian outpaced Trent Alexander-Arnold and Nathaniel Philips to finish past Alisson Becker. Marco Asensio made it 2-0 in the 36th minute after another long ball from Kroos, and Trent headed the ball for Asensio, who chipped the Liverpool keeper. Mohamed Salah pulled one back for the Reds 6 minutes into the second half, after Diogo Jota’s shot was deflected into his path, and he finished past Thibaut Courtois. Vinicius made it 3-1 with a close-range shot, following a pass from Luka Modric.
Real Madrid will head into the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal with an advantage and Liverpool will have to win by a 3-goal margin or beat the Blancos 2-0.
