UEFA Champions League holders, Chelsea will host Real Madrid in the quarter-final of the competition while Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City welcome Manchester United conquerors Atletico Madrid.
The last eight pairing was completed with Liverpool entertaining Benfica and Bayern Munich facing Europa League winners’ Villarreal.
The Bavarians need to be wary of the Yellow Submarines after they shocked Europe with an emphatic 3-0 second leg victory over Juventus following a 1-1 first leg draw in Spain. That put Unai Emery’s men as one of the dark horses of the competition but they will face a Bayern team with arguably the best striker in the world, Robert Lewandowski.
Another tournament favourite, Manchester City will be hoping to go one better this season after finishing as runner-up last season courtesy a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea but they have so far showed intention of winning the tournament this year. The Cityzens outclassed FC Porto in the round of 16 while Atletico Madrid edged Manchester United in a tactical superiority battle. So, this is a fixture to look forward to.
Defending Champions, Chelsea are keen to retain their title despite the heavy sanctions against their owner, Roman Abramovich due to his friendship with Russian president, Vladimir Putin and the war currently in Ukraine. It will be a tough task against the 13th time Champions League winners and Real Madrid have already showed their experience with victory over star-studded Paris Saint German in the round of 16.
Liverpool will be massive favourite to go through to the next round after overcoming Inter Milan in the round of 16 while Benfica struggled past Ajax. Jurgen Klopp side have a huge opportunity of advancing into the semifinals but it will be a tough tie.
