ABZ looks at the biggest performing Nigerians in the world of football at the weekend, including the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), and below are the selected Naija superstars who stood out over the weekend.
Godwin Aguda | The 23-year-old star put up one of his best performances as he helped Rivers United come from behind to beat Warri Wolves 2-1. Aguda missed a penalty to level for the home side at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, with Wolves keeper Michael Uweru making a save, but the former Rangers star then scored the equalizer in the 23rd minute and the winner on the hour mark.
Charles Ashimene | The former Warri Wolves forward was scored the only goal in the weekend’s big game, as table toppers, Akwa United defeated Enyimba at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium. The game was heading for a goalless draw until Nelson Ogbonnaya gave away a penalty late. Ashimene stepped up to score the spot-kick to give the Promise Keepers a five-point lead at the top of the log.
Sunni Bature | The midfielder was the hero over the weekend when Jigawa Golden Stars defeated Jos side, Plateau United 1-0 at the Hadejia Stadium. Following a terrible run of one win in twelve matches and three games losing streak, Bature scored the winner in added time to give the Badaru Boys all three points.
