Aruna Quadri will lead Team Nigeria’s athletes to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.
The Director of Federation, Elite Athletes Department (FEAD) of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dr Simeon Ebhojiaye, disclosed this development in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday.
Aruna Quadri became the first African to reach the quarterfinal round of the table tennis event at the Olympics Rio 2016 Games. He was selected to lead the athletes during the National Sports Federations meeting held in Abuja recently.
He will be assisted by the captain of the women’s basketball team, Adaora Elonu while Odunayo Adekuoroye, will be the flag bearer during the opening ceremony. Ese Brume, Africa record holder in long jump will bear the flag during the closing ceremony.
Quadri, the African number 1 and 2014 World Table Tennis Player of the Year will be making a return to the Olympics for the third time. He would be hoping to help Nigeria claim the gold medal in the event.
