Tokyo 2020: Nigerian Table Tennis Stars Take Center Stage On Day-One


Table tennis action at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games gets underway tomorrow and all eyes will be on three Nigerian stars at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

Seven-time Olympian Funke Oshonaike will be the first to be on duty in the table tennis event for Team Nigeria.


She will go up against Liu Juan of the USA in the women’s Singles Preliminary Round at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

Next-up is Edem Offiong who will be on Table three to battle MADARASZ Dora of Hungary in the women’s singles preliminary round one.

African Games champion Olajide Omotayo will round up Team Nigeria action on day one of the Table Tennis events when he goes up against Apolonia Tiago of Portugal in the men’s singles, preliminary round one.

It has been 33 years since table tennis first made its introduction at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and five highly coveted gold medals including one for the Mixed Doubles event will be given out.
