Tokyo 2020: Blessing wins Nigeria’s second medal at the Olympics

Team Nigeria have won their second medal at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics through Blessing Oborududu after Ese Brume won the first medal.

Nigeria won the first medal in the early hours of today after Ese Bruno picked up a bronze medal after an outstanding performance in the women’s long jump final.

Blessing Oborududu, who qualified for the final of the women’s wrestling 68kg category, lost 4-1 against Tamyra Mensah-Stock of the United States of America.

Oborududu fought valiantly but the USA’s Tamyra Stock-Mensah was the best on the day, and she wins gold while Blessing won Nigeria’s first-ever Olympic medal in Wrestling.

In other events, Divine Oduduru narrowly missed out on the final of the men’s 200m, after finishing third in the first semifinal with a time of 20.16, and he missed out on the non-automatic qualification. 

So far, Team Nigeria now have one silver, and bronze.
