Fatima Bello, a champion at the recently concluded National Sports Festival, has inspired the G20 Table Tennis club of Abuja to victory at the ongoing Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) National Championships in Lagos.
The team event of the tournament concluded on Wednesday and G20 Table Tennis Club of Abuja and Ondo State have emerged winners of the women and men team events respectively.
Fatima Bello, a champion at the recently concluded National Sports Festival. She, alongside Esther Oribamise, put in a superb performance in the finals to inspire her side to victory at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
In the men’s final, Ondo came from behind to secure victory in an entertaining encounter. The team was 2-0 in the singles before Wale Fagbamila and Taiwo Mati paired up to restore the match by defeating the pair of Azeez Solanke and Ahmed Bello in the doubles category.
G20 and Ondo were awarded the sum of N200,000 star prize for becoming champions of team category of the tournament. Individual players dream of securing their own share of the prizes available to win as the tournament continues on Thursday, May 20, with matches in the singles event.
The group matches of the singles were concluded on Wednesday, May 19 while the knockout round of the singles will take centre stage as well as doubles and mixed doubles events in men and women categories.
