The Super Falcons lost their opening at the four-nation invitational to Jamaica, after the North Americans beat Nigeria 1-0 in the opening match of the 2021 WNT Summer Series.
It was not a good opening match for the Super Falcons as they could have been lost by two-goal after Jamaican missed a penalty in the first half. Rita Chikwelu brought down Jody Brown in the 18-yard and the referee pointed to the spit, but Deneisha Blackwood’s penalty was saved by Tochukwu Oluehi in the 25th minute.
First-half substitute, Ijeoma Okoronkwo thought she had broken the deadlock in the 50th minute, after putting the ball into the net from the left side with a brilliant far post finish, but the goal was chalked off for offside.
Few seconds after that, Blackwood made up for the penalty loss, as she scored the goal for the North Americans after receiving a pass from Brown Blackwood, and she blasted the ball into the upper left corner with her left foot from eight yards out.
The two nations showed a few blazes of efficiency on the counter-attack in the first period, but the intensity reduced as the humidity dropped in the second half, but the goal by the Jamaicans was enough for them to beat the African champions.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria will face Portugal for their second game on the 13th of June, before facing the hosts, the USA on the last matchday on the 16th of June.
