It was a night to remember for newly promoted premier league outfit, Brentford as they hammered Arsenal 2-0 at home with Super Eagles star, Frank Onyeka getting a standing ovation.
The 23-year-old became one of the top signings for the Bees heading into the 2021/22 season after he joined from Danish side, FC Midtjylland for £8.5m this summer.
Brentford enjoyed a good preseason heading into the first game of the season against the Gunners. They drew with Manchester United and defeated Valencia in a game Onyeka scored with endeared him into the hearts of Bees fans.
However, Arsenal were related favourites in the premier league opener ass Brentford was just returning to the premier league for the first time in 74 years.
But they showed no fear as they took the game to Mikel Arteta’s men. Sergi Canos drilled the ball in at the near post and the stadium erupts as the home side took a first half lead.
With the Gunners pushimg for a goal to equalise, Brentford killed off the game in the second half as Bech Sorensen’s long throw was flicked at the near post and Christian Norgaard headed into an empty net to make it 2-0.
Onyeka, who had worked so hard in midfield and saw a header miss target in the first half was substituted in the 80th minute to a standing ovation from the fans in recognition of his outstanding displays on the night.
Brentford went straight to the top of the table while Arsenal sit bottom of the premier league log after the match.
