Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been nominated for the Eredivisie’s goalkeeper of the season award.
The 21-year-old goalkeeper was born in Germany and began his career at Fortuna Dusseldorf. Okoye signed for De Kasteelheren in the summer after departing boyhood club Fortuna Dusseldorf and shortly became the number one shot-stopper for the Dutch side.
The Super Eagles star, who made his debut for Nigeria in a friendly game against Brazil in 2019, has kept 10 clean sheets in 27 games.
His performances have earned him fan love and helped Henk Fraser’s side finish in the top half of the League table, and Europa League qualification stages. After the last game of the season, Okoye appreciated God and the fans for an amazing season.
He took to his social media platform, Twitter, to express his gratitude. A great season came to an end last night. “Happy to be part of this Club!! I thank God almighty for all he has done for me,” wrote the 20-year-old.
He has been nominated alongside Remko Pasveer (Vitesse), Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Sergio Padt (Groningen), Nick Marsman (Feyenoord), Marco Bizot (Alkmaar) and Joel Drommel (Twente) for the goalkeeper of the year award.
Okoye is expected to join the rest of the Super Eagles for international friendlies against Cameroon and Mexico scheduled for this summer.
