Wolves Striker’s first Premier League goal condemns Sheffield United to relegation

Sheffield United’s relegation from the Premier League is now confirmed following a 1-0 loss at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday night courtesy of striker Willian Jose’s first ever goal in the Premier League.

The Blades needed to avoid defeat to keep their slim hope of Premier League survival alive, but after a goalless first half at Molineux, Paul Heckingbottom’s side fell behind to Jose’s strike just before the hour mark.

Chances went begging for both sides to add more goals to the game afterwards and shoulders of the visiting players fell in defeat at the referee’s full time whistle as a 26th loss sent United back to the Championship.

Sheffield United’s relegation comes hours after Norwich City’s promotion to the Premier League was confirmed with Watford’s loss earlier on Saturday.

With the loss, Sheffield United become the first team to finish as high as ninth in the Premier League and be relegated the following season since Birmingham City 10 years ago.
