“While you copy my past, I invent new future,” is a caption Cristiano Ronaldo used in one of his most recent updates on Instagram and it stands true as the Portugal icon has only gone to set a new scoring record while facing France at Euro 2020.
Ronaldo, who looks on course to break the record for most goals scored for a country, opened scoring for Portugal from the spot against the reigning world champions after 31 minutes.
The goal is his 13th in European Championship history and along with the seven he’s scored at the World Cup, makes him the first footballer to score at least 20 goals across both competitions.
The goal is also his fourth at this Euros and 108th for Portugal, putting him one goal away from equalling Ali Daei’s international scoring record of 109 goals.
Only a matter of time for CR7.
