Gernot Rohr has stated why Nigeria’s Super Eagles played out a goalless draw with Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions in another friendly encounter between both nations in Austria on Tuesday evening.
Nigeria had lost 1-0 to the same opponents last Friday despite dominating that match and were out to get revenge, only to end up settling for a share of the spoils while also failing to find a way past the Cameroon keeper again.
And on that note, Rohr stated that the absence of Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze and other first choice forwards of the Super Eagles played a role in the team finding it difficult to score against Cameroon.
“We wanted to score but we could not. When you are missing players like Osimhen, like Chukwueze, [Joe] Aribo, [Samuel] Kalu, Henry [Onyekuru], it’s not easy [to score goals],” Rohr said in an interview after the goalless draw.
Rohr added, “We had a lot of chances [to score] in these two games [but] we couldn’t score. We also missed a bit of realism in front of goal.”
That said, the Super Eagles boss remained optimistic about the team going forward as he said the hard work of the Super Eagles players will bear fruit by the time of 2022 World Cup qualifying matches against Liberia and Cape Verde in September.
