Rivers United Confirm Participation In Pre-Season Championship


Rivers United football club will participate in the upcoming pre-season tournament titled “The West African Challenge Cup”.

Nine teams will do battle in the West African Challenge Cup, a preseason tournament in its maiden edition, as they compete against each other and in the end there win be the Champion of Champions.

The Challenge cup is organized by Aubay Sports and Monange Promotions and it aims to bring Champion clubs from West and Central African countries together in one competition.

This tournament’s objective is to unite football teams and open up footballing possibilities for all who are involved. 
The event is scheduled for 19th to 25th August, 2021 in Benin Republic.

Rivers United, who finished as runners-up in the 2020-21 NPFL season, are Nigeria’s second representative in the Champions League and they will face Tanzania’s Young Africans Sports Club.

West African Challenge Cup

Last season, the Pride of Rivers had an unsuccessful outing in the Caf Confederation Cup qualifiers as they were knocked out by rivals Enyimba on penalties after a 1-1 draw on aggregate.

Grand-Popo Stadium Will host the tournament

The Cotonou, Grand-Popo Stadium will host matches of the West Africa Challenge Cup.
