Rivers Angels Face AS Police In Last Group Game Of WAFU Qualifiers

Rivers Angels will face AS Police de Niamey in their last group game of the West Africa Football Union Zonal Qualifiers for the maiden edition of CAF Women’s Champions League,

The NWFL champions started their campaign with a brilliant 2-0 win over Hasaacas Ladies FC of Ghana on Saturday night, to edge closer to qualification for the semi finals.

A win on Tuesday night will see the Jewel of Rivers finish top of Group B and send them into the last four where they get to meet second placed team in Group A for a chance to secure a qualification for the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League later this year.

Head coach of the side, Edwin Okon is optimistic heading into the game as he hopes for an even better performance from his girls.

The former Super Falcons gaffer said they’re fighting until the very end.

“We just finished with our training and you can see that we’re all geared up for tomorrow’s encounter”, Okon began.

“AS Police is not a small team and cannot be underrated so we are going to go hard.

“We are equally going to work on the mistakes from our last game to ensure we have a smooth game.

“I am glad we don’t have injury worries, so we are set and ready to make Nigerians proud,” he added.

Also speaking ahead of Tuesday’s game is Player of The Match on Saturday, Ezenagu Maryann who says they’re going to approach AS Police de Niamey same way they did with Hasaacas Ladies FC.

“No team is an underdog so we’re approaching tomorrow’s game the same way we approached Hasaacas Ladies,” Ezenagu said.

“All I have to say is that Nigerians should keep believing in us because we’re definitely coming back home with the title.

“And for the game tomorrow, expect goals from us because we’ll make every shot count.

“The mood in camp is very high and we are good to go”, she summed.

 Kickoff for Tuesday’s game is 7pm Nigerian time.
