Carney Chukwuemeka says it’s a “dream come true” after making his Premier League debut in Aston Villa’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the London Stadium on Wednesday night.
The highly rated wonderkid made the bench for the sixth time against Eberechi Eze’s Crystal Palace in their Match-Day 36 game but finally got a taste of elite action against Spurs.
Chukwuemeka tweeted after the encounter: “Dream come true.”
Aston Villa left back, Matt Target congratulated the youngster for making his debut: “Enjoyed that tonight! That’s how you bounce back!
” Congratulations to Jaden Philogene-Bidace and @Carney_chuk10 for making their Premier League debuts! 🤩 “
The 17-year-old, who has likened himself to Paul Pogba, has been watched by the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Juventus as he has performed at top quality for Villa since he arrived from Northampton Town at the age of 12.
Spurs took an early lead through Dutch international Steven Bergwijn but the score was soon levelled when Real Madrid on loan star Sergio Reguilon scored an audacious own goal before Ollie Watkins put the game beyond their host with the winner.
With just two minutes left before the end of the encounter, Chukwuemeka came on for his debut in place of Marvellous Nakamba as the match finished 2-1 in favour of Aston Villa. Chukwuemeka has already represented England at youth level but eligible to play for Nigeria.
