Pre-Olympics: Australia blow out D’Tigers in third friendly

Nigeria’s basketball team, D’Tigers suffered a heavy loss to Australia in their third friendly game at the Las Vegas exhibition ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

D’Tigers were superb in their first two games, beating the world champions, United States of America 90-87 and world number four, Argentina 94-71, but the Nigerian team have now lost to Australia 108-69.

The Australians were effective from the git-go and were effective, stopping all the attempts from Nigeria, while defending well, and after the first quarter, there were already 13 points up as it finished 26-13.

At the end of their first half, it was already 20 points apart, as the Aussies lead 49-29. After the third quarter, the score had increased to 84-46, and the gamed ended with an amazing point gap of 39, ending 108-69.

Obi Emegano and Josh Okogie both scored 10 points apiece for D’Tigers while Jahlil Okafor had seven points and five rebounds and Ike Iroegbu also scored seven points in a game they will want to forget in a hurry.

This loss is Mike Brown’s first loss with D’Tigers since taking charge of the team in 2020, and he will hope his team bounce back from the loss, and more importantly, get to the podium in Japan.
