World Cup winner, Paul Pogba inspired Manchester United to a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men it was a perfect revenge after them lost 6-1 in the reverse fixture against Jose Mourinho’s men at Old Trafford during the start of the season.
The match was action packed as Red Devils striker Edinson Cavani was denied a goal when Scot McTominay was adjudged by VAR to have fouled Heung-Min Son during the build-up to the goal. Few minutes later the South Korean scored to hand the home side a first half lead.
Manchester United came on strong in the second half and dismantled Spurs with the inspirational presence of Pogba, who played a key role in the fight back. After an inter-change that involed Luke Shaw, Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani, Brazilian midfielder Fred finished of a rebound after Hugo Lloris save from the Uruguayan to make it 1-1.
Cavani made it 2-1 when he dived into a sublime cross from substitute Mason Greenwood and headed pass the Spurs goalkeeper – this time, he wasn’t denied by the referee or VAR. And inside the six minutes extra-time, Pogba produced a bit of magic to wriggle through two Tottenham defenders before playing in Greenwood, who made no mistake with a superb finish.
Manchester United maintains their second position on the log with 63points and it is a huge boost for them after Manchester City lost 2-1 at home to Leeds United. Tottenham sit seventh with 49 points after 31 matches played so far.
