Osimhen helps Napoli pick draw at Camp Nou

Victor Osimhen fired blanks as Napoli held Barcelona 1-1 at the Camp Nou in the first leg of the Europa League round of 32 clash.

The Super Eagles striker had been rated doubtful for the encounter following a small knock he picked up in training before the encounter but after a scan, he was given the all clear to feature.

However, the Nigerian who has registered six Europa League goals was unable to add to the tally despite causing trouble against the Barcelona defence led by the former Manchester United defender, Gerard Pique.

Napoli went into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead courtesy of a brilliant goal by Polish international, Piotr Zieliński but Barcelona got a deserved equaliser when Juan Jesus was adjudged to have handled Adama Traore’s cross. Former Manchester City forward, Ferran Torres stepped up and scored with aplomb.

Osimhen was replaced in the 80th minute by Napoli’s all-time topscorer, Dries Mertens as he continued his wait to score against another Spanish opposition after scoring against Valencia during the 2019 UEFA Champions’ League group stage in the colours of Lille.
