Nigeria’s Folashade Oluwafemiayo has won gold in the women’s powerlifting at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. Oluwafemiayo claimed Nigeria’s third gold medal in the 86kg category.
She also broke her former world record set in Manchester on March 28, 2021, with her second lift of 151kg. She then went on to set a new Paralympic record after lifting 152kg on Monday morning.
The 36-year-old became the third Nigerian to win a gold medal for the nation after Tijani Latifat and Bose Omolayo.
Bose Omolayo won Nigeria’s second gold medal in powerlifting at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. Bose clinched the first position in the women’s 79kg category. She also set a new world record after she lifted 141kg.
The feat also brings Nigeria’s total number of medals at the ongoing event to five with three gold and two bronze medals — all coming from powerlifting.
