Dutch manager Ronald Koeman had been sacked by Barcelona, following a 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday.
Koeman’s position had been seriously weakened after poor results with back-to-back defeats against Real Madrid and Rayo, their third defeat in four matches.
An official statement from the club says: “Barcelona has relieved Ronald Koeman of his duties as first-team coach. The president of the club, Joan Laporta, informed him of the decision after the defeat against Rayo Vallecano. Ronald Koeman will say goodbye to the squad on Thursday at the Ciutat Esportiva.
“FC Barcelona wishes to thank him for his service to the Club and wishes him all the best in his professional career.”
The Catalan giants sit in ninth on the La Liga table with 15 points in 10 games, and they have a game in hand against Sevilla. Their next game will be against Deportivo Alaves at Camp Nou on Saturday.
