Nwora’s 33 points not enough to help D’Tigers avoid second Olympic defeat

Jordan Nwora put in an MVP performance when Nigeria’s male basketball team, D’Tigers played against Germany in the early hours of Wednesday at the Basketball event of the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.

The Nigerians fell apart in the fourth quarter of the game to lose 92 – 99 to Germany in a very tight encounter. Both teams were desperate for a win after losing their first games. D’Tigers lost to Australia while Germany lost to Italy, so a win would improve their chances of qualifying for the next round.

The Nigerians started the game well and accumulated most of their points via three-pointers. Jordan Nwora was the highest scoring Nigerian with 33 points. Germany also played some very good basketball that made the game an end-to-end one. The Europeans were inspired by Orlando Magic’s Moritz Wagner and Danilo Barthel.

The points were tied at half-time (50-50) and at the end of the third quarter (74-74). The fourth quarter became the all-important one and Nigeria led with as much as eleven points but didn’t do enough defensively. They gave away silly fouls and the Germans easily converted from the free-throw line.
