NPFL MD 29 Wrap: Akwa’s Unbeaten Run is Over As Title Rivals Close The Gap

The matchday 28 of the Nigeria professional Football league witnessed big wins in Warri and Okigwe while the biggest result of the day was the end to Akwa United’s 18 match unbeaten run by a resurgent Katsina United.

Samuel Kalu with his sixth goal of the season ended Akwa United’s 18 game unbeaten run to hand Katsina united a 1-0 win.

The results reduced the point difference between first, second and third from four points to one point.

Enyimba picked a much needed point in the same fixture where they were smashed 4-0 last time out.

Plateau Utd couldn’t go pass an Enyimba defence missing their first choice goalkeeper, John Noble and star player Anayo Iwuala who both are on national duty.

Kano Pillars beat FC Ifeanyi Ubah 1-0 on Sunday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium to keep the pressure on the top two heading into the final nine games of the season

Pillar’s decisive goal came in the 36th minute through David Ebuka Odenigbo.

Furthermore, Abia Warriors lost their third game on the bounce with a one nil result against Dakkada FC. Isaac George got the winner for Dakkada with a 76th minute volley that beat Vincent Edafe.

Only Enyimba (5) has won more away games than Dakkada(3) this season..

In Lafia, Nasarawa United recorded their 9th straight home win with a 2-1 defeat of Rivers United.

Chigozie Obasi in the 22nd minute and Michael Tochukwu in the 60th scored for Nasarawa Utd, while Godwin Aguda scored for Rivers United in the 68th minute.

Elsewhere in the league, Heartland defeated MFM FC 2-0 in a highly temperamental game that saw 3 cards issued to both teams.

Also, Kwara United ended a 9-year home winless run against Sunshine Stars courtesy of an early goal in Ilorin. Michael Ohanu’s goal in the 7th minute was enough to break the jinx.
