NPFL: Akwa United Back To Winning Ways as Title Rivals Falters

Akwa United restored their four points lead at the top of the NPFL table courtesy of a 2-1 win over second placed Nasarawa United in Uyo.

Samuel Amadi broke the deadlock with a free-kick in the 30th minute before Marshal Johnson got to the end of an Etboy Akpan’s free-kick in the added minute of the first half to make it 2-0.

Nasarawa united tried getting back into the game but they fell shot, scoring only once through a penalty.

Sampson Gbadebo was adjudged to have committed a foul and Adamu Hassan stepped up to convert in the 77th minute.

Katsina United were the biggest winners of the week after they defeated Jigawa Golden Stars 1-0 for the first win under new coach, Azeez Mohammed. The loss brings host, Jigawa Golden stars closer to relegation battle.

Enyimba International missed an opportunity to move up to fourth on the table after playing 1-1 with Warri Wolves.

Dakkada FC secured their 13th league victory with a 2-0 victory over Kwara United. Dakkada got the opening goal through Godwin Inamoto who capitalized on the defensive error from the visitors In the final minutes of the first half.

Emmanuel Charles headed home Unwana Asuquo’s cross to double his side’s lead in the 85th minute to complete the win.

Furthermore, Lobi Stars defeated visiting Heartland 3-0 with Akile Monday scoring either side of a Martin Ossy brace.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah thrashed Adamawa United 3-0 in Nnewi to ease their relegation woes with Ekene Awazie, Nnoso Nzediegwu Abel James getting the goals for the home side.

 Faud Ekeleojuti’s 54th minutes proved to be vital for Sunshine stars as they beat Wikki Tourists 1-0 in Akure to move to third from bottom of the table.
