Barcelona boss, Ronaldo Koeman has been given a lifeline at the Camp Nou, following initial reports that he could be sacked, but he now has to do just one thing if he is to remain at the club.
Koeman was heavily criticized in the just-concluded season, which saw Barcelona finish third, behind Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. They also shamefully lost the round of 16 to PSG in the Champions League and his position as manager was in doubt, but he has been given one more chance.
According to reports from SER Catalunya, via their ‘Qu’e t’hi jugues!’ programme, the Dutchman will remain in charge of Barcelona, and his stay will be announced on or before next week Friday, June 9th, 2021.
The report says that Koeman, who has been having a series of meetings with the club president, will stay till his contract runs out in 2022, and Joan Laporta has instructed him that he MUST return to playing the 4-3-3 formation, and also a more offensive style, as they are desperate to restore the glory days.
The 58-year-old gaffer, who played the 3-4-3 and 4-4-2 formation for most of last season will have to revert to the 4-3-3 formation, as it is not negotiable, else, he may be shown the exit door before the season ends.
Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Manchester City legend, Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia also from the Cityzens, and Emerson Royal from Real Betis, and are expected to complete the signing of Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay in the coming days, leaving Koeman with lots of options.
