The club teammate of Super Eagles star, Alex Iwobi, has been suspended by the club for his alleged involvement in child molestation, pending police investigation in the case.
Everton have confirmed that a member of their first-team squad has been suspended, subject of inquiries from authorities, but no details have been revealed regarding the player in question or the charges involved, but the Premier League club are, assisting the police with their inquiries.
An official statement from Everton reads: “Everton can confirm it has suspended a first-team player pending a police investigation. The club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”
According to reports from DailyMail, the Evertonian was arrested on suspicions of sex offenses, and he was arrested on Friday by Greater Manchester Police before being released on bail, but his identity can not be revealed yet due to legal reasons.
The official police report reads: “Officers arrested a man on Friday 16 July 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences. He is on police bail pending further enquiries.”
The Goodison Park team is finishing their pre-season program, as they are due to face Colombian side Millonarios in the Florida Cup on Sunday. New manager, Rafa Benitez will have to set out his players without the involved player.
The player’s agent has refused to comment on the issue, but ABZ will monitor the investigation.
