Nigeria’s Olajide Omotayo has secured his first win in the French Table Tennis Pro A-League as he helped PPC Villeneuve beat defending champion Loups d’Angers 3-2.
The Nigerian who joined PPC Villeneuve from Italy, was the star player of the encounter when he defeated Swedish star Jon Persson 3-1 to hand the home team a closed 3-2 win for being their first win of the season.
The win also shot PPC Villeneuve to the second spot on the league table behind Jura Morez who are topping the table after matchday 2 of the Pro A.
Described as a prestigious victory for PPC Villeneuve who managed to beat the relegation last season, it is now expected to serve as a benchmark match for Omotayo and his teammates.
Omotayo, 26, who represented Nigeria at the Beijing Olympics has said that he joined the team to give his best as he would be playing against some of the best players in the world.
“I wanted to take the opportunity to play in France in a big league. I know that I am arriving in a very tough Pro A championship and that I will meet opponents who are superior to me on paper, but I will give my best to get points and wins,” Omotayo said.
