The Super Eagles failed to sparkle against the Indomitable Lions, but the former Galatasaray was one of the few players that impressed
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has showered praises on the team’s new star Valentine Ozornwafor after his commanding display in the 0-0 draw against Cameroon on Tuesday evening.
The Galatsaray defender made his debut in the first of the two doubleheader friendly games, coming on as a late substitute for the injured William Troost-Ekong.
Ekong subsequently missed the second game, which allowed Ozornwafor to come in for his full debut. The 22-year-old was only drafted into the squad after several key players withdrew from the squad, but he may have done just enough to convince Rohr.
Following the clash yesterday, the German tactician praised the performance Ozornwafor, saying he showed why he was invited.
We had a problem to build the defence so we played, the first time with Valentine and he did very well, we finished the match with Simon Moses, who is a winger in the left back position,” Rohr said.
We didn’t concede a goal.
“I’m very happy for Valentine; a lot of people did not understand why he was with us, he showed today the reason why he can play with us. He did very well with his left foot in central defence,” he added.
Valentine will now be hoping to receive a call up when Nigeria take on Mexico in another international friendly on July 4 at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon are among the players to have expressed their delight at playing in the two friendly games against Cameroon.
The Super Eagles missed a lot of key players for the clash, but there were still some regulars in the team, and they took to their social media pages to show their happiness in representing the country.
