Kelechi Iheanacho followed up his heroics in the quarter-finals against Manchester United in the FA Cup as he netted the winner for Leicester City during their semi-final triumph over Southampton at Wembley.
The Super Eagles forward scored a brace to eliminate Ole Gunnars Solskjaer’s side in the last eight and went into the match against the Saints with 14 goals in 30 appearances for the Foxes this season.
After a goalless first half at Wembley, Iheanacho pounced on a loose ball inside the box and fired past Fraser Forster in goal for the Saints. It was his 15th strike of the season in all competitions making him the first Nigerian player to score 15 goals in a season in all competitions for a Premier League club since Odion Ighalo scored 17 goals in 2015/16 for Watford.
Interestingly, the Nigerian has a goal every 92 minutes in all competitions this term and has a better minutes-per-goal ratio than Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah and Bruno Fernandes.
The goal against Southampton made it 14 goals in 19 FA Cup appearances for Iheanacho and he maintained a record of never losing a tie in the competition when he scored. Leicester have now reached their first FA Cup final since 1969 (52).
Leicester will meet Chelsea who beat Manchester City in the other semifinal, in the final of the FA Cup next month.
