Barcelona began squad transition with the appointment of Dutchman Ronald Koeman and he made sweeping changes to the team by allowing Luis Suarez of his contract without renewal.
It was against the expectation of the Uruguayan, who had hoped to continue his friendship and partnership with Lionel Messi at Nou Camp. Both have kept the bromance going after the sale of Brazilian playmaker, Neymar to Paris Saint German (PSG).
However, the departure of Suarez did not go down well with Messi and he openly criticized the club for letting his friend out of the club and demanded to also leave the club but his request was refused with a promise that the president will step down at the end of the season, which happened.
Fast forward, ten months later – Suarez found a home at Atletico Madrid and today scored the crucial goal that helped the club lift their 11th La Liga title on the final day of the season courtesy a 2-1 win over Rayo Valladolid. The passion of the former Liverpool player was infectious and lifted his teammates as they overcame the challenge from Real Madrid and former club Barcelona for the title.
Barcelona may regret now why they allowed him leave the club especially as he was a firm fan favourite and apart from his poor form after he returned from injury, he was outstanding with the Catalan giants for the period he played for them, winning four La Liga titles, the UEFA Champions League and the Super Cup.
Suarez is a striker that leaves all on the pitch and can sometimes over exaggerate his actions and has even been banned for his behavior in the past but his ability is never in question.
Congratulations to Atletico Madrid for winning the La Liga title and kudos to Coach Diego Simeone that took chance on Suarez, the end product is a majestic winning combination.
