How Osimhen’s Napoli missed out on Champions League

Napoli failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League after their final day 1-1 draw against Verona at the Diego Maradona stadium in Naples.

The 22-year-old was involved for 90minutes as the Partenopei seeked UEFA Champions League qualification with Inter Milan and Atalanta already secured two spot.

On the final day of the Serie A season, Napoli battled Juventus and AC Milan for the final two Champions League spot. A win for the Azzurri would’ve guaranteed their qualifications for Europe’s elite competition.

Juventus and AC Milan were in more danger of missing out of the Champions League with away matches against Bologna and Atalanta respectively but while they won away, Gennaro Gattuso’s men fumbled their chance.

Amir Rrahmani gave Napoli the lead on 60minutes but Verona equalised nine minutes later through Koray Gunter as the game ended 1-1. That result ended Napoli’s dream of Champions League qualification as they finished fifth behind fourth placed Juventus and AC Milan in third.

Osimhen was left devastated by the result as he held his jersey above his face. The most expensive player in Napoli’s history will now compete in the Europa League next season.
