Gini Wijnaldum played his final game for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s men beat Crystal Palace 2-0 to seal third spot in the Premier League and secure Champions League football.
Wijnaldum’s contract runs out this summer and he’s expected to leave the club as both parties could not agree to a new deal.
However, he left on a high as he helped the dethroned Premier League champions finish inside the top four. The Reds went into the game in fourth place, but they still needed to win to be assured of Champions League football next season.
And they did just that as a goal from Sadio Mane in either half helped Klopp’s men finish in third spot. However, it Wijnaldum that grabbed the headlines.
The Netherlands midfielder led out the team and then received a standing ovation when he was taken off for James Milner in the 78th minute.
It did not end there as he also received a guard of honour and was presented with a souvenir displaying the number of titles Liverpool have won.
