The most in form team in Europe, Italy showed class, as they eliminated the best ranked team, Belgium with a 2-1 win at the Allianz Arena.
After an end to end attacking display, it was Italy who scored the opening goal just after the half-hour, following a poor clearance from Jan Vertonghen, and Marco Veratti passed the ball to Nicolo Barella, who blasted the ball past Thibaut Courtois.
Lorenzo Insigne made it 2-0 in the 44th minute, scoring his signature goal from outside the box with a beautiful curler beyond Courtois.
Just before the break, Romelu Lukaku pulled one back for the Red Devils, after Jeremy Doku was brought down in the 18-yard, Lukaku placed the ball into the bottom right corner.
Belgium have now been eliminated from the quarterfinal again, just last in 2016, while Italy will face off with Spain in the semifinal.
