Despite the absence of Super Eagles star, Samuel Chukwueze, Villarreal defeated Manchester United on penalties to win the 2020/21 Europa League final.
Manchester United headed into the game looking to end their season with a trophy after finishing second in the Premier League, but were unable to put up a good performance.
Villarreal took the lead in the 29th minute when Gerard Moreno stabbed in a half-volley to score his 30th goal of the season.
After a poor first half, United played better in the first ten minutes of the second half. This resulted in an Edinson Cavani goal in the 55th minute of the game. The former Paris Saint Germain forward equalised with a shot from just outside the six yard box.
In the 70th minute, Rashford had a great chance to put United in front. The England international missed a one-on-one chance with goalkeeper, Geronimo Rulli.
With the game at 1-1 after 90 minutes, it headed into extra time.
Villarreal won the 11-10 on penalties to lift their first trophy since 2005.
