Atletico Madrid Femenino striker, Rasheedat Ajibade scored a late equalizer as the Super Falcons of Nigeria played out a 3-3 draw against Portugal 2021 WNT Summer Series in the United States of America.
Poor communication at the back resulted in the first goal for the Portuguese in the 22nd minute. Chidinma Okeke’s toe-poked the ball past her advancing goalkeeper to score an own goal. The Europeans made it 2-0 with a volley from Carole Costa in the 34th minute. The Falcons pulled one back just before the break after Michelle Alozie scored from a Rita Chikwelu cross.
Just four minutes after the restart, half-time substitute Ijeoma Okoronkwo gave the ball away and Portugal made it 3-1, but just three minutes later, Francesca Ordega led a break and finds Ajibade, who sends in a cross for Asisat Oshoala, and the captain’s pressure paid off as the Portuguese scored an own goal.
In the stoppage time, second-half substitute, Toni Payne sent in a superb cross to set up Ajibade, who tapped in from close range, and the goal was enough to earn the Super Falcons of Nigeria a deserved point.
Asisat Oshoala and Onome Ebi, who joined the team late, were both substituted in the second half with what looks like a cramp, but the team still manages to earn a point over their opponent.
Nigeria surprisingly lost their first game 10 to Jamaica but redeemed themselves by picking up a point against Portugal. They will now face off with the USWNT on the 16th of June in the final match of the four nations tournament.
