Cristiano Ronaldo has reached a new milestone of having 300 million followers on Instagram in a week that saw the Portugal captain’s stunt he pulled with two Coca-Cola bottles lead to the soft drink giants losing $4 billion of its market value within hours of the act.
Ronaldo put two Coca-Cola bottles aside and raised a bottle of water to drink and place in front of him instead – a nod to his no soda diet – after he scored twice in the 3-0 win over Hungary in Portugal’s opening Euro 2020 match. And it appears the move earned him new followers on Instagram.
Having become the first person to reach the 300 million followers mark on Instagram, Ronaldo now has 111 times more Instagram followers than Coca-Cola with 2.7 million, and 18 times more than the soft drink giants across major social media platforms combined.
However, Ronaldo’s is not the most followed account on Instagram as the platform’s own account is closing in on the 400 million mark as it currently is followed by 397 million other accounts. After Ronaldo is close competition among The Rock, Kylie Jenner and singers, Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez.
