The attention of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals would tilt on Wednesday after Manchester City and Real Madrid both defeated Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool respectively on Tuesday night. Wednesday would see FC Porto take on 2012 champions, Chelsea, while the other quarterfinal game would see a repeat of the 2019/20 season in which Bayern Munich came off 1-0 winners over Paris Saint-Germain.
Wednesday’s quadruple would be hoping to put a smile on the faces of their fans – this, to be achieved by winning the first leg and get themselves the much-needed advantage ahead of the second leg. But how can you get an extra smile on your face? Maybe, via a win on bets placed on Wednesday’s Champions League fixtures.
FC PORTO vs CHELSEA
Chelsea will be hoping they can return to winning ways after their humbling 5-2 defeat to West Bromwich Albion when they travel to Seville on Wednesday.
The Blues, led by Thomas Tuchel has had an impressive runoff form since the German joined them in January, cruising to 14 games without a defeat. The game against Porto, however, would the tactician’s first in the Champions League with Chelsea, with many looking to see how he would perform with them.
Chelsea has come out on top in five of their eight Champions League meetings with Porto since 2004, and the most recent battle between the two clubs ended in a 2-0 home win for the Blues during the 2015-16 group stage. Porto would be looking to take the upper hand in Wednesday’s encounter considering their ability to have knocked out a Juventus side with Cristiano Ronaldo in their ranks, in the last stage of the competition.
Porto has only failed to find the back of the net once in their last 12 games across all competitions, but it remains unknown if this would play a huge part against a Chelsea side who have a better Champions League form.
WE SAY: This game should include lots of end-to-end affairs that would most likely see it end in a draw. To be safe, OVER 1.5 GOALS should do, but for a higher odd, BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE.
BAYERN MUNICH vs PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN
Bayern’s quest for a ninth Bundesliga title gathered steam with a 1-0 win over RB Leipzig, but PSG’s trophy hopes took yet another significant hit with defeat to Lille by the same scoreline.
Bayern’s sheer dominance of the European football scene culminated in former PSG protege Coman scoring the vital goal in the 2019-20 Champions League final – becoming the first player in history to net against his former club in the showpiece event – and Hansi Flick’s side is in no position to let their adversaries wrestle the crown off their hands now.
Going into Wednesday’s, Bayern stands top favourites considering their imperious form – 6 wins in their last six games in all competitions, and just a draw in their last six games in the Champions League this season, the other, all wins.
With star men, Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry both out of the first leg tie, PSG would be hoping to get their 2019/ 2020 final revenge at the Allianz Arena, but would their firepower be enough?
WE SAY: Based on their current form, this should be A STRAIGHT WIN FOR BAYERN MUNICH. To better your betting odds, BAYERN WIN AND OVER 1.5 GOALS.
