Karim Benzema was the hero for Real Madrid, as his brace was enough to help the Merengues defeat Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 at the Bernabeu.
Benzema scored the opening goal in the 14th minute after Vinicius Junior capitalised on poor defending from the visitors and gave a lovely pass to the Frenchman to tap in.
Six minutes before the break, Fernando equalized for the visitors, after Alan Patrick chested a chip pass to his compatriot and the Brazilian beat David Alaba to blast the ball past Thibaut Courtois.
Benzema gave Real Madrid the lead again after the hour mark, following a lovely interchange of passes from the Whites and Vinicius laid the pass for the Frenchman to finish.
Real Madrid have now moved to the top of the table with nine points in their first four games, while Shakhtar Donetsk remain bottom of Group D with just one point.
