Barcelona are in more problems than expected, as they are unable to register their captain Lionel Messi, new signings Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay, because of the salary limit in La Liga.
Barcelona’s financial troubles have taken another turn, as they can not register any new players, as they have hit the salary limit in the Spanish La Liga, and the only solution for them now is to sell some players, and free up at least €200,000, despite the sale of Konrad de la Fuente, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Junior Firpo.
Messi’s contract with Barcelona expired at the end of June, and he is now a free agent, and no longer a member of the team. The Catalan giants have already signed Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia, whose contracts with Manchester City ended, Memphis Depay from Lyon, and Emerson Royal from Real Betis.
According to reports from Goal, Barcelona are over the salary cap for the Spanish La Liga, and therefore they cannot register Aguero, Depay, Garcia, Emerson and captain, Messi in their squad for the 2021/2022 season, except they sell some players to reduce the wage bill.
Barcelona are looking to sell three big names from the squad to help reduce the wage bill. Samuel Umtiti, Miralem Pjanić, and Philippe Coutinho, but there are no clubs interested in Umtiti and Pjanic for now, while clubs are reluctant to pay €14 million per year salary of Coutinho.
