In-form Taiwo Awoniyi scored his seventh goal out of nine Bundesliga matches in the 2021/22 season as helped Union Berlin to a 1-1 draw against Stuttgart.
The former Golden Eaglets striker grabbed his fourth goal in the Europa League during the 3-1 defeat against Dutch side Feyenoord and went into the Mercedes-Benz Arena full of confidence.
Awoniyi curled in a delightful left-footed effort from the edge of the box from Becker’s pass to give Berlin a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute. Interestingly, it was the third time the 24-year-old had put his side 1-0 up in the Bundesliga this season, more than any other player in the league, scoring more than half of all his team’s goals – seven out of 13.
Stuttgart were reduced to 10-men in the second half when Atakan Karazor picked up a second yellow for a bad tackle on Rani Khedira but they ended the game strongly and denied Awoniyi’s Berlin all three points as Wahid Faghir scored a late equalizer to make it 1-1.
Union Berlin are currently placed fifth on the Bundesliga log with 16points while Stuttgart sit 13th with just 10 points.
