Taiwo Awoniyi maintained his red-hot form for Bundesliga side, Union Berlin when he scored his second goal of the season during the 2-2 draw against Hoffenheim at the weekend.
The former Golden Eaglets striker began the 2021/22 season on a fantastic note when he powered in a 20-yard goal against Bayer Leverkusen at the Alte Foersterei and has continued to repay the faith of the club following his permanent move from Liverpool.
On Sunday, Awoniyi came up against Super Eagles defender, Kevin Akpoguma and it was goals galore inside the PreZero Arena. Niko Gießelmann gave the away side the lead but Jacob Bruun Larsen levelled scores for the home side before Akpoguma made it 2-1 with a powerful header for his first goal of the season.
Awoniyi missed a one-on-one chance to equalise but wasn’t to be denied a second time when he finished his next opportunity to ensure Union Berlin avoided defeat. The goal was Awoniyi’s second Bundesliga goal of the season.
After two Bundesliga fixtures, Union Berlin has two points in 12th while Hoffenheim sit second with four points.
