AITEO Cup: Defending Champions Thrown out As Semi Finalists Emerge

Gateway United’s impressive run at this year’s Aiteo Cup has come to a halt in the last 8 after a 5-4 loss on penalties to Bayelsa United at Kwara Sports Complex, Ilorin.

The highly contested game ended a goal apiece in the regulation time as Julius Ikechukwu’s strike cancelled out Emo James opener in the second half.

Kano Pillars have now lost an AITEO Cup match for the first since September 2018. They were unbeaten in 12 consecutive matches according to OptaNGR.

Red-hot Silas Nwankwo scored the only goal of the afternoon for the Solid Miners on the dot of the first-half after a pass from Tebo Franklin. It was the striker’s second Aiteo Federation Cup goal of the year to end the fairytale run of Gombe United.
