D’Tigers recorded a second win in as many games at the ongoing Afrobasket 2021 in Kigali, Rwanda on Friday.
Nigeria’s male basketball team secured their second win at the ongoing 2021 FIBA AfroBasket tournament by defeating their Kenyan counterparts 71-55 on Friday afternoon in Kigali.
Coach Mike Brown’s men were dominant against their East African opponents, who are only making a return to the continental basketball tournament since 1993.
The Nigerians raced to an early lead with the first quarter ending 20-8 in favour of their favour. Kenya tried to mount a comeback in the second quarter and cut the deficit to 8 points with the first half ending 34-26.
D’Tigers fought through a difficult third quarter before extending their lead in the final quarter to secure another win at the ongoing tournament. Mike Brown’s side started their campaign on a winning note against Mali on Wednesday; registering an 81-73 victory.
The win will see the D’tigers, with one leg in the next phase of the tournament, a secured second place in Group C, to face the third-best team from Group D. The group comprises Senegal, South Sudan, Uganda, and Cameroon, in the next round.
