Cameroon’s Francis Ngannou has become the first African heavyweight champion in the MMA, joining two continental compatriots to hold a championship belt in the sport.
Ngannou challenged Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title belt and succeeded this time with a second round knock-out to gain vengeance for the loss he suffered at the hands of same opponent in 2018.
Ngannou’s win sees the Cameroonian join Nigerians, Kamaru Usman and Israel Adesanya, to make Africa the continent with the most number of UFC champions in the men’s division.
One of the Nigerians, Kamaru Usman, who holds the Welterweight championship belt, was ringside to greet Ngannou afterwards in a heartwarming moment.
