18 and Unbeaten, Akwa United Stay Top Of The NPFL

Akwa United completed the double over bottom placed Adamawa United with a 2nil win at the Uyo stadium in a matchday 27 encounter.

Akwa United have now gone 18 games unbeaten in the NPFL, since their February 14th loss to Nasarawa United.

Coach Kennedy Boboye made just one change to the starting eleven that drew with Kano Pillars in Kaduna last weekend.

Iconic striker Mfon Udoh returned to the starting line up taking the place of youngster, Ubong Essien who is not included in today’s match-day squad.

Charles Atshimene put Akwa United ahead in the 25th minute with his 10th goal of the season and his ninth at the Nest of Champions.

19 minutes later Mfon Udoh neatly dispatches his attempt beneath Friday Achimugu’s body to make it 2-0 in the 44th minute.

Adamawa came out of the dugout fughting hoping to salvage something from the game.

Idris Abubakar with Adamawa United’s first chance of the second half, but his shot was easily saved by Adewale Adeyinka in the 53rd minute.

The Promise Keepers got the job done and open up a four-point lead at the top of the NPFL standings.
